In what may be the Maharashtra government’s double standards, CBSE students will not face discrimination for polytechnic seats. A huge controversy is already raging over the government’s decision to bar those CBSE students who opted for school-based assessment from taking admission in junior colleges governed by the Maharashtra board. “We don’t have any directions in this regard from the state government so far. So we’re providing admission forms to all class X students who fulfil the basic eligibility,” technical education director Subhash Mahajan told TOI.
After TOI pointed out the government’s contradictory policies on admissions to CBSE students in junior colleges and polytechnic institutes, Mahajan, who heads Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) in Mumbai, the competent body for all engineering and polytechnic admissions in the state, said he will seek instruction from the higher authorities in this regard. A principal of a CBSE school said, “What’s the point in two different sets of rules for different courses?” He said if CBSE students opting for school-based assessment were not eligible for admissions to state junior colleges how could they qualify for polytechnic courses run by the government itself.
