Students are flocking in large numbers to colleges with renewed hope after the second cutoff list was released.
At North Campus, Hans Raj, Kirori Mal College and SGTB Khalsa witnessed a large number of students applying for admissions under general category on Wednesday, the first day of the second cutoff admission. While KMC recorded 300 admissions — the highest for the college this season, Hans Raj admitted 250 students, most of which are in the science stream. But popular courses like BCom (H) and BCom at KMC is still not attracting aspirants — the college admitted just three and 20 aspirants on Wednesday.
Off-campus colleges like Dyal Singh (evening) admitted 175 students, Deen Dayal Upadhyay 158 and Lady Shri Ram 130 students.
At South Campus, while Ram Lal Anand witnessed a rush for general category admissions, Sri Venkateswara College saw many ECA/sports category applicants. Venkateswara has closed admission to BSc (H) chemistry, BSc (H) statistics and BA (H) English after the first cutoff.
"I want history (H). Hopefully, I will be able to get in today. The second cutoff list is a blessing. I didn't even think I would be able to qualify for a good college," said a relieved Praful Tyagi while filling the admission forms.
A number of students has come to Venkateswara for admissions through the ECA and sports quota.
"With my marks, it's impossible for me to get into a good college through merit. But hopefully my awards in lawn tennis will help me get a seat. I am looking to apply for BA Programme," said Pooja Narayan who had represented India abroad.
The nearby Ram Lal Anand didn't have a similar rush to collect ECA/ sports quota forms but it did see a large queue for general admissions.
"I didn't get admission in any of the campus colleges but Ram Lal Anand is a good college and I am happy I made it through the cutoffs here," said Anurag Srivastav, a student of BSc (honours) statistics.
The colleges also witnessed withdrawals on Tuesday and Wednesday. Among the colleges which witnessed the largest cancellation is Dyal Singh. According to college sources, there have been over 50 cancellations so far. DDU saw 26 withdrawals in two days.
At North Campus, Hindu and KMC had 20 cancellations each. "Students are waiting for various counselling sessions or looking to shift to other colleges where they are getting the course of their choice," said Hindu principal Vinay Kumar Srivastava.Sports trials have started at Gargi and Kamala Nehru College. Most of the other colleges admitting students under the ECA/sports quota are accepting applications. Trials are expected to start soon.
