TN Medical counselling from June 30

Tamil Nadu Medical Counselling for Admission into Government, Govt. Aided, Self-Finance Medical Colleges will start from 30th June.

However, counselling for the General Category will commence from the 1st of July.

Mr. Vijay, Minister for Health revealed the “rank list” of those students who have applied for medicine in a function held at the Kilpauk Medical College.

He said, “ Among the large number of students who had applied for Medicine, 66 students have 200 "cut-off".

He also said this year, a total of 20,769 students have applied for M.B.B.S., B.D.S., courses. Among which 7,478 are male and 13,291 female candidates.

Totally, 20, 123 applications have been accepted. Applicants from state board amounts to 19,636. Applicants from CBSE board figure up to 401. Out of which 7,565 applicants come under the first generation graduates category.

A total of 34 applicants have secured centum in all four subjects Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. A total of 32 students have scored centum in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Hence, these candidates will be ranked based on their date of births with the older getting the preference. 

Accordingly, the first ten places comprise of Sivaranjani- Rasipuram, Dakshini - Namakkal, Shruthi Ganesh Chennai bagging the first three places. Two in O.C. category, 7 in B.C., category, 1 in M.B.C. Among the top 10, five are females, and five males.

Counselling for 1653 seats available with 17 Government Medical Colleges, 85 seats available with Government dental colleges and 85 seats available with Self Financing colleges, will begin on 30th June. The government quota seats in the Self financing medical colleges and the dental colleges will be fixed before the counselling process would begin.

Children of the freedom fighters, children of Ex- Servicemen, Sports persons and differently abled persons who come under the special reservation category will sit for counselling on 30th June.

However, counselling for General category will begin on 1st of July and shall take place for five days in a stretch.

IMC says no to increase of seats: The Indian Medical Council has rejected the TN governments proposal to increase the number of seats in Madras Medical College and Stanley Medical College. This government will ensure increasing the no of seats in the medical colleges in the next academic year. For this the infrastructure will developed and the shortage of Doctors will be solved. Similarly the medical council has denied new admission in the Thiruvarur and Theni Medical Colleges. The Government will make it a point to convince the council before students would sit for counselling.

Fee Structure: The fee structure for the self-financing medical colleges will be decided in a weeks time. Few categories that are essential for beginning of self-financing medical colleges are hospital infrastructure and the availability of doctors. So, self-financing medical colleges cannot increase as much as engineering colleges, said the minister.

The Principal Secretary for Health,Girija Vaidyanathan, The dean of Medical College Vamsadara, Additional Dean Sheela Grace were present at the function.

"Cut-off " Details:  Last year's minimum cut-off details for the medical courses are as follows: O.C., - 197.50, 194.25, 193.75; B.C., - 195.50; 193.00; M.B.C., -192.75.
