With excess admissions in several courses leaving little leeway for the general category students and raising problems of overcrowding for the colleges.
At the Hansraj College where 50 per cent of the seats were full by the third admission day, officials said the response of OBC students had not been good enough and that most of the remaining seats belonged to their category. At the Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), meanwhile, 398 admissions were complete in the B Com (Honours) course against 252 seats, and Economics (Honours) had already registered 70 admissions against 62 seats.
Dr V K Kawatra, Principal of Hansraj College, said that in many courses second cut-offs look likely only for OBC students. "Courses like Computers and English are almost full and in Science courses also 50 per cent of the admissions are complete. Though the response of SC/ST students has been good, that of OBC category students has not been good enough," he said.
He pointed out that in the Commerce (Honours) course 120 seats out of the total 200 had been filled but mostly by general category students. "Out of the remaining 80, almost 60 are for the OBC category, so for the general students, the quota seems almost full," he said, adding that in some of the courses a second cut-off is likely for OBC students only.
At the Miranda House, Economics (Honours) course was massively overbooked with 105 admissions for a sanctioned strength of 62. So was Physics, where 79 had taken admission against 69 seats.
