Delhi University aspirants who have participated in international sporting events will be given direct admission under the sports quota in the undergraduate courses across colleges.
Moreover, under the fresh guidelines issued by the university administration for admission under this quota for the academic year 2011-12 , the colleges will conduct their own field trials instead of last year's centralized trials.
Under the existing provisions, colleges can offer a maximum of 5% seats (subjectwise ) over and above the actual intake for sports and extra-curricular activities. Every college will have a sports admissions committee with the principal as its chairperson .
Professor M C Agrawal, the chairman of the DU Sports Council, said: "The university has decided to do away with the centralized trials for this year. The centralized trials were introduced last year on experimental basis. Colleges which do not have sports teachers will be helped by the Delhi University Sports Council to conduct the trials."
The admission process for sports and extra-curricular activities will begin on June 21, the day DU declares the second cutoff list. Students can get a maximum of 75 marks for their achievement in sports events while they can bag a maximum of 25 marks from field trials. The cumulative score will be considered before the colleges come up with their shortlisted candidates.
"The process is completely objective and transparent. The colleges just need to check the certificates and accord the corresponding marks. A similar scheme will also be adopted by the colleges for the field trials where marks will be allocated based on the performance," Agrawal said.
A college may have additional qualification requirements or prefer any particular sport. "Some colleges may be having enough cricket players and may prefer footballers or basketball players this time. The colleges may also set minimum eligibility criteria for Class XII marks for particular courses," said the principal of SGTB Khalsa College, Jaswinder Singh.
For admission to PG courses under the sports category, international-level players as well as first-position holders in interuniversity events will get direct admission while those securing second and third positions will be given 48 marks and 24 marks. Simple participation at inter-university events will get a candidate 12 marks.
