DU issues notification about changes in admission process

Updated on: Saturday, April 23, 2011

The Delhi University formally notified its colleges about the changes in this year's admission process, mainly the discontinuation of the pre-admission forms, a week after the decision was made by the admission committee.
In its notification, the University also made it clear that prospectus of colleges have to clearly state that all undergraduate degree courses shall be taught in semester mode.

The University said both the centralised OMR (Optical Magnetic Resonance) pre-admission forms as well as the college pre-admission forms are to be discontinued from this year to make the admission process simpler and more student friendly.

But, it allows colleges to ask students to register online for profiling purposes, albeit on a "purely optional" and free-of-cost basis.

The schedule of the admission process, however, is yet to be declared and the University said it will be notified shortly.

It said that the University may declare up to five cut off lists, and colleges will not be allowed to float any first come first serve policy for students.

"Each college is required to supply information regarding the additional eligibility criteria along with their justification to the Dean, Students Welfare office by May 9 to be compiled and published into the University information bulletin," it said.

The University last week had decided to do away with the pre-admission forms as they were believed to be making the process more cumbersome.

Thousands of students every year had to travel to Delhi from all over the country to fill and submit the application forms before the cut-off marks were announced.

The students will this year directly fill up the college admission forms and the University enrolment forms after the declaration of the cut-off lists.

Other procedures will more or less follow the usual routine and the University will hold 'open days' like every year, and 'e-open days' like last year. Telephonic helplines too will be pressed into service along with Internet based assistance to students seeking information.

It said the application forms for admission under the 'sports' and 'extra curricular activities' categories will be available from the date of announcement of the second cut-off lists.

Officials had earlier said that with no admission forms to be filled, the University will begin the process of admissions a week early this year, announcing the first cut-off lists on June 15. The first list was last year brought out on June 22.
