New Delhi: Gone are the days when students had to go from one Delhi University (DU) college to another to inquire about availability of courses. All the information is now available at the click of a mouse.

Several websites are now helping aspirants with both the selection of courses and the process of admission.

"Every year, a majority of applicants struggle to get information about admission to DU. Students have to run from college to college for every small piece of information. Our website makes this process easier for them," Abhishek Singla, director of marketing, LearnHub.com, said.

The 'DU-friendly websites', as they call themselves, have become popular among the young.

"The response from students is overwhelming. Our website is just a month old and we have 4,172 profiles of students already. The number of hits till date is 11,002," said Sorav Narula, director of Sapient Education Services.

Along with the information on popular courses in Delhi University, and previous year's cut off lists, the websites also provide information about other leading universities in the country and abroad.

"The website, IeNexus.info, is very user friendly and we give our visitors a choice to specify their search, course wise or college wise," Narula added.

Abhishek Sinha, a DU aspirant, said: "Earlier I was very confused as to which courses I could apply. Delhieducation.net helped me out. Now I am aware of the courses and I can make an informed choice."

Mallica Kamra, another aspirant who has come from Lucknow, said: "Since I am an outstation student, I don't know which colleges will be near to my paying guest accommodation. I posed my query on one of these portals, and now I know where all to apply."

To make the interface more interactive and user-friendly, many of these websites offer free online tests and upcoming schedule of tests for various DU courses. Students can also write to them and get their queries answered.

"We also have a section on our website called 'Ask Us'. Students can forward their queries and our experts answer them in 24 hours. The student is also sent a notification email as and when the query is answered," said Sidharth Kumar, technical coordinator with delhieducation.net

However, there are some students who are not enthused by these websites.

"I think this (pursuing a course) is a decision of a lifetime and nobody more than your own parents can give you the correct advice," Swati Draik, a student from Shimla, said.

Delhi University is one of the most prestigious varsities in the country. Every year around 49,000 students enrol for scores of subjects across its nearly 80 colleges.
