IIMs admission gets tougher

Securing admission into IIMs, has been no easy feat before, the cut off percentiles announced by the IIMs recently are higher as compared to previous years.

IIM-Ranchi has last year announced the highest cut-off of 99.65 percentile among all IIMs. The cut-off that has been announced by IIM-Ranchi this year is 99.66 for the 2011-12 batch. The cut-off at IIM-Calcutta, which is IIM-Ranchi's mentoring institute, is 99.59.

IIM-Ahmedabad has announced that around 540 students who have an overall percentile that is higher than 99 and higher than 94 in each individual section would be called for personal interviews.

IIM-Lucknow, which had been one of the organizing institutes for the Common Admission Test (CAT)-2010 has increased the weightage allotted to the candidates' CAT scores. Instead of the regular 30% weightage given to CAT scores, the weightage allotted now would be 37.5% for the next batch. The institute has also increased its fee from Rs. 8 lakh to Rs. 12 lakh.

IIM-Kozhikode has decided this year to raise the weightage given to CAT scores to 50%, 15% to group discussion and social skills, 25% to personal interview and 10% to writing task.

Many IIMs are now working on admitting more women and non-engineering students as it would increase the diversity in the institute. Also, directors of IIMs that have been recently established will be meeting next week to discuss holding joint personal interviews and group discussions.
