The admission process for technical courses such as engineering, management and pharmacy is about to begin. On Saturday, the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), in charge of technical education in Maharashtra, put out a fresh admissions schedule. The DTE first said that the admission schedule will be released on July 19, then on July 21 and finally on July 26. But as the clarification came earlier, it was put out on July 24; online applications for engineering will be available from July 29.
The DTE had stalled admissions for almost a week because the approvals for new colleges from the All India Council of Technical Education, the country's regulatory body for technical education, were unclear.
Students were worried because the delayed admission process will have a direct bearing on lectures eating into their holidays. The clarification came through and we have to put out all the dates. The admission process should be completed soon. Preference forms are already out. We will ensure colleges start classes as soon as possible, said a DTE official. The schedule for each course has been put up on the DTE website: www.dte.org.in
