Applications have been invited for admission to diploma course in general nursing and midwifery training offered at 14 government nursing schools under the Health Department of the State government. Seats allotted for each district-level government nursing schools are as follows:
Thiruvananthapuram - 28 seats, Kollam - 25, Kottayam - 20, Alappuzha - 23, Idukki - 20, Ernakulam - 30, Thrissur - 28, Palakkad - 25, Kozhikode - 26, Malappuram - 26, Kannur - 30, Wayanad - 20, Pathanamthitta - 20, Kasargode - 20. Total seats - 341. Twenty per cent seats are earmarked for boys.
In each district, 64 per cent of the seats will be filled on the basis of merit.
The duration of the course is three-and-a-half years. Applicants should submit their application in the prescribed form along with true copies of relevant certificates against the seats of their own district only.
The entry qualification is a pass in Plus Two with physics, chemistry and biology as optional subjects. Candidates should have secured at least 40 per cent marks in the qualifying examination.
Age-limit
The age limit is 17-27 years as on October 1, 2010. Application forms and prospectus can be obtained from the district-level government nursing schools on payment of Rs.200.
The application fee receipt should be attached along with the duly filled in application form. The last date for receipt of completed application forms at the concerned government nursing school is July 31.
Applications can be submitted at the government nursing school at Ashramam, Kollam, for seats exclusively reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities.
Selection
The selection will be done on the basis of the marks scored in the optional subjects viz. physics, chemistry and biology.
The rank list will be prepared by the selection committee with the District Medical Officer as its head.
The selected students will get a monthly stipend of Rs.300. There is no tuition fee. Limited hostel facilities will be provided for girls.
