Leader of opposition in Puducherry Assembly AMH Nazeem has urged the Union Human Resource Ministry to reserve 40 seats in the National Institute of Technology here for students belonging to the Union Territory of Puducherry.

Nazeem said out of the 90 seats in the NIT, 45 have been earmarked as All-India quota and remaining 45 jointly for the students of Andamans and Puducherry.

"It is reliably learnt that the Union HRD Ministry has allocated 25 out of the 45 seats to Andamans. Puducherry UT will get only 20 seats," .

He pointed out that population-wise Puducherry UT was far bigger when compared to Andamans and hence Puducherry should naturally get more seats. "The correct proportion would be 90 per cent for Puducherry and 10 per cent for Andamans," he said.
