The direction of Delhi High court to conduct common counseling in giving seats in institutions of Indian Institute of technologies and National Institute of Technology had mixed responses. While few officials of NIT appreciated the sand, it seems the IIT Administrations were not happy in the stand. It is noted, that as such, no acceptable method of seat allocation is available for the centrally funded technical institutions in India.
In fact the policy matter to provide in tie-resolution and ranking is different between IIT’s and NIT’s similar problem arises in the case of seats of disabled candidates. Regarding IIT is concerned; a candidate can select only one choice during counseling. But 30 NIT’s in the country permit multiple choices filling system. Since both institutions have different entrance examinations, the common filling system has got few issues. In this regard the problem of equivalent ranking articles. This is because, 3 NIT’s select the candidates based on JEE –Main Examinations while IIT’s are selecting student based on JEE-advanced.
According to the experts, these kinds of problems can be resolved only by conducting single Entrance Examination through out the country.
