MBA and MCA courses seem to have fallen out of favor with students in Gujarat. This year, only 6493 students took admission against the available 20,455 seats in the 218 MBA and MCA colleges in the state.
The remaining 13,961 seats are still vacant though the first round of admissions in MBA and MCA ended on Thursday. Considering the total number of students who had applied for admission, 11,000-odd seats are likely to go vacant this year, said sources.
Experts say that there are some takers for MCA courses as they fetch jobs but students are keen to take admission only in top colleges. Job prospects after MBA from a little known college are extremely poor, the experts said.
The filling of choice for the second round of admissions ends on Friday. The second round of allotment will be done on August 3.
"Last year, 40 per cent of students who had applied did not take admission. This means a huge number of seats will stay vacant this year too," said an officer of the admission committee for MBA and MCA programmes.
