The three-day BEd counselling ended at Panjab University on Friday, with a majority of students preferring social science subjects.
Vandana Mehra, co-ordinator, BEd counselling, said, "It was the first stage. The second two-day phase will start from August 2. Dozens of seats are expected to be filled during this period." The university is conducting centralized counselling for 565 BEd seats in five city colleges.
Mehra said students were choosing social sciences subjects in BEd and very few were keen on yoga. "Most of the students want to opt for social sciences subjects but there is tough competition. However, Brahamrishi Yoga Training College in Sector 19 has failed to admit even a single student during the three days," said Mehra.
At PU, heavy rush was witnessed at the science department, where counselling for MSc in biochemistry was held. The course attracted a good number of candidates from different parts of Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi. "I have come from Abohar district (around 300 km from Chandigarh) to attend the MSc counselling. Panjab University's MSc is renowned across the country, so I do not mind covering a long distance to come here for studies," said Mahima Thakur, one of the applicants.
