The seats' allotment in the second round of admissions for engineering courses which was supposed to take place on Sunday has been rescheduled on Monday.
As many as 450 students have withdrawn their admissions from Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC) after they got admission into IITs and NITs.
After the withdrawal of these students, many seats in top branches are up for grabs in colleges such as L D engineering college, NIrma University and PDPU. The date of seat allocation was postponed to avoid a third reshuffle. This will ensure that the big chunk that will be vacated can be accommodated in the second round itself. Around 700 seats under management quota have been surrendered by the colleges to ACPC as it is expected that over 10,000 seats will remain empty. These seats are of less preferred branches.
ACPC secretary M N Patel said, "The deadline for filling the management quota seats is July 21 and admissions to these seats were open since June 21. More or less, we are expecting 10,000 engineering seats to go vacant this year."
Out of total of 66,000 engineering seats, 11,000 seats are under management quota. Since some of the colleges are unable to fill it on their own, they have surrendered it to ACPC.
Today is the last date to deposit the fees for students who got admissions into diploma courses in the first round. In the first round, 54,516 seats were filled in diploma. Out of 54,516 seats, 31,316 students have confirmed their admission. More than 20,000 students are yet to confirm their admission. More than 10,000 seats are expected to go into second round of admissions. There are total of 126 diploma colleges and over 66,000 seats in the state. As many as 86,000 students had applied for admissions. Admission Committee for Diploma Courses has asked the students that those who want to confirm their admission should fill the forms today.
As many as 915 seats in BBA colleges have remained empty after two rounds of admission and reshuffling. Only two colleges could get their seats full in BBA. In case of BCA, 125 seats have gone vacant after two rounds of admission. There are total of 16 BBA and 13 BCA colleges in GU. As many as 3,182 students had applied for 1,550 seats in BBA colleges and for 2,560 seats in BCA colleges 3,876 students had filled the forms. More than 50 per cent seats in BBA have remained empty.
