Madurai Bench of the Madras High court has directed the Director of Government Examinations to consider on merits the representation of a Plus Two student whose mark in the biology subject was reduced to 196 from 197 without applying for retotalling/revaluation to restore her original mark.
Justice S.Manikumar recorded the submission of the Director to consider the representation of the of petitioner today itself as the counselling for the backward class for joining the MBBS would start on June 20, and inform the director of Medical Education.
Petitioner S.Suchitra's father T.Sureshkumar submited his daughter had the idea for applying for revaluation in biologypaper after getting xerox copies of her answer sheets. But she dropped the idea as her teachers advised her against the same, and did not remit any fee.
She had neither applied for re-totalling nor revaluation. But to her shock and surprise, she found cut off mark reduced to 195.5 instead of 196. She was informed that her paper might have been revalued and on revaluation the marks secured in biology had been reduced.
The Government pleader said the directorate informed him that girl, while applying for on line answer sheets, had clicked both options for revaluation and retotalling, and hence the government had sent the paper for revaluation and she got one mark less.
The Judge said the examination department had failed to substantiate that the girl had applied for revaluation by paying the money.
As per the post examination processing system rules, the paper would be revauled only after paying the fee.
He recorded the submission that the director had agreed to consider the application of the Petitioner on merits and after verifying the computer details, take a decision on the award of marks in biology subject, and make suitable amendments if there was an error.
