Most colleges witness up to 2% rise in the cut-offs compared to last year under various quotas

Students applying for junior college seats under various quotas had reason to celebrate on Thursday, as most colleges witnessed up to 2% rise in the cut-offs compared to last year.

While the online merit list will be released next week, a few colleges released their first merit lists for the minority category.

"The cut-offs seem to be improving, but not drastically. While our cut-offs for the commerce and science streams remained similar to last year, the arts cut-off rose by 5%," said Ashok Wadia, principal of Jai Hind College. The cut-off for science, commerce and arts stream at Jai Hind were 75%, 70% and 65% respectively.

At St Andrew's College, the cut-offs for traditional courses were similar to last year—the maximum applications went for the bifocal subjects. "We have started offering IT as a subject in all three streams so maximum applications have come for the same and cut-offs, too, have rose," said Marie Fernandes, principal. The cut-offs in this college for bifocals (IT) in science, commerce and arts stood at 87.45%, 82.73% and 78.80%, respectively.

Other colleges, like St Xavier's and Khalsa, will release their first minority quota list on Friday.
