The Odisha technical colleges' association (OTCA) on Wednesday discussed ways to make the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) process simpler and hassle-free.
Issues like tedious application process, delay in publication of results and malpractices in counselling were discussed at a two-day workshop, which kicked off here on Wednesday.
The workshop is being organized by the association.
Joint secretary of employment and technical education and training department Ratnakar Rout said, "We heard private college authorities, students and parents and will definitely take appropriate steps to address their concerns."
The experts were of the opinion that a tedious and lengthy application process often dissuades students, who migrate to other states leading to large-scale vacancies.
OTCA president Biswajeet Mohanty said, "We need to check this trend right now as some colleges are already shut owing to student shortage."
The newly-formed association has also demanded a non-negotiable fixed OJEE calendar, no double locking of choices, update of seat matrix and changing of nodal centres.
"We got all support from the state government and are hopeful that technical education will improve soon," Mohanty added.
This year, 1.29 lakh candidates have applied for the OJEE.
The exam is scheduled for May 12.
