The experiment of the Allahabad University authorities to offer the option of online submission of application forms for various undergraduate and postgraduate courses has been successful with the university receiving 19,200 online applications four times the number of around 5,000 last year.
In the year 2011, university authorities had received a total of 2,477 applications online which had crossed the 5000 mark in 2012 when more aspirants of UGAT submitted their forms online out of the over 50,000 applicants. Because of this mild response, university authorities had offered online as well as manual mode for submitting the forms at AU. But this year, till Saturday midnight, AU had received around 19,200 online applications. Adding to the number of applicants, those who have registered and submitted the fee till Monday midnight, the university is all set to receive over 20,000 online applications.
"I had advocated for online submission, especially for B Sc/M Sc and B Com/M Com, but with the feeling that candidates of the rural background may not be comfortable with the hi-tech option, there were both options," said B N Singh director of admissions. But, candidates have surpassed all expectation and till Saturday the university had received a total of 19,181 online applications, he added. Till April 13, a total of 2,962 online application forms were received for PGAT, 491 for Institute of Professional Studies, 14,683 for UGAT and 659 for Law five year course, adding to 15,342. Among the online UGAT applicants, 6,955 have applied for B Sc (Maths), 3,422 for BA, 3,248 for B Com and 1,401 for B Sc (Bio) along with many others, he added.
"Going by the popularity of the online option, we would try that from next year, all forms for BSc, B Com and Law five year course be filled online," said Singh.
The university authorities have distributed a total of 35,993 forms through manual mode of which a total of 855 forms were distributed on the last day which was extended to Monday. Adding the manual submission to online, university authorities have till date received a total of 51,335 forms, informs the director admission.
