Age limit for school admission finalised by government

The Delhi government finalised age limits for admission into nursery, kindergarten and class one in schools in the city.
 
Education Minister Kiran Walia said a child should not be more than 3 years 11 months and 30 days old as on March 30, 2013 for admission into nursery classes.
 
For admission into kindergarten, the maximum age limit has been fixed at 4 years 11 months and 30 days while for class-I, it was decided that the age should not be more than 5 years 11 months and 30 days.
 
The decision was taken at a meeting of the State Advisory Board of Education department. Officials said some relaxation on age for children with special needs will be worked out.
 
Walia said the Board has recommended opening of second shifts in the private schools on the prime condition that it will not be run for commercial purpose.
 
The Board recommended constitution of a committee to look into the various aspects of the decision including safety of children, quality of education and other related issues.
 
Walia said she has suggested to the schools to give more weightage to neighbourhood criteria in the selection process for admission into nursery and kindergarten classes.
