Bangalore University to cancel 120 M.Ed seats under management quota

Updated on: Thursday, August 30, 2012

Bangalore university has decided to cancel around 120 seats under the management quota in seven colleges for the academic year 2012-13 due to irregularities.

At the extraordinary meeting of BU academic council on Wednesday, the task force constituted by the university pointed out the irregularities. The council unanimously decided to put a hold on the admission process in these colleges. A notice will be sent to the colleges in this regard.

The colleges are Vijaya Teachers College, Jayanagar; Gold Field College of Education, Bangarpet; St Paul's MEd College, Vijayanagar; Smt Mehra's College of Education, Banaswadi; SJES College of Education, Virgo Nagar; Bangalore City College of Education, Kalyan Nagar, and KIET Post Graduate Studies and Research in Education, Bannerghatta Main Road. Admission in these colleges for the academic year 2012-13 will take place only for the university quota students and colleges will be given six months' time to rectify the lapses.

Karan Kumar, chairman, task force and an academic council member said, "Counselling process for admission to MEd courses under BU will begin on September 4. Since the management quota seats are cancelled this year, around 120 less seats will be available for the course."

The students, who will be taken through university quota in these seven colleges, will be taught directly under the varsity. "Till the time these colleges get back on line, the varsity will take care of the space and guest faculty for the students. If the colleges don't correct the irregularities within six months, these colleges will be disaffiliated," said vice-chancellor Prabhu Dev.

The council meeting began with an argument between the VC and members about the ratification of the task force. "The task force should be ratified by the syndicate, which is the highest authority in this case. We need to know the powers given to the committee. There is a hidden agenda to target only BEd and MEd colleges," said R Karuna Moorthy, a member.
