Updated on: Friday, August 03, 2012

Civil Engineering branch seems to be less attractive with less admission percentage as against 19 other core branches like Mechanical Engineering, Electronics & Communication and Computer science Engineering.

Even though the state and central government are offering more construction projects and funding schemes in the infrastructure development areas, the school finished students are showing lesser interest in taking civil branch as their career option.

For this year alone, over 3,000 additional seats have been added to civil engineering branch.

Banches like production Engineering, chemical Engineering and bio-technology received more students attention.

Nearly 6,000 additional seats were created in Mechanical Engineering, taking the total available to 30940 as against 24531 of last year.

Electronics and Communication branch has a highest admission count of 10,386 with 29% of the 35528 seats taken. Followed by Mechanical engineering which has 8247 filled seats out of 30940. Due to more options for their career, students particularly girls are opting for this branch.

More absent rate of 3% is plying a critical role which is leading to more unfilled seats.

Almost half way through the counselling, only 24% of total seats have been taken with 1.32 laks seats yet to be filled.

Counseling for admitting students to Engineering colleges across the state having 524 college including 20 newly opened institutions for this year is taking place from 13.7.2012. Around 1,69,000 students were called to fill up 1.73 lakhs seats in around 48 various Engineering & Technology branches.
