The first day of counselling at Government Arts College here on Friday saw seats under special quota getting filled.
Counselling was for those with disabilities, those who excelled in sports at the national, State, divisional and district levels, National Cadet Corps ‘A’ certificate holders, and wards of ex-servicemen.
Though there were 39 seats under the three per cent disability quota, the college could fill only eight seats.
No takers
There were no takers for the others. Even though 25 had applied, only eight made it to the counselling.
Under the three per cent sports quota, the college admitted 31 out of the sanctioned 39.
The rest was not filled because the candidates did not get the preferred course. There were as many as 605 applicants under this quota, sources said. Nine candidates were admitted under the ex-servicemen quota and two under the National Cadet Corps quota.
K. Shanmuga Sundaram, Controller of Examinations, said the counselling for the general category would begin on Saturday. As many as 750 candidates had been called for counselling, which would be held in batches.
