Jamia Millia Islamia, has introduced recording interviews being conducted for admission to its mass communication centre for the academic session 2012-13. The step has been taken as an experiment to bring in greater transparency in the process of selection.
The university will be video recording the interviews being held for admission to various courses to the AJK Mass Communication Research Centre (AJK MCRC). The objective behind the step, MCRC officials say, is to maintain records similar to answer-scripts of the candidates, and to ensure greater transparency and accountability in the process of selection.
According to Simi Malhotra, faculty and media co-ordinator, "The idea behind recording interviews is to assess performance, which is subjective in nature. As the video can be referred to again at any point of time during selection after the interview is over, it will help make the final selection process totally fair and transparent."
The move has been taken as an experiment and recording started from the first round of interviews to the mass communication courses on June 11.
"There is excitement among students appearing for interviews as they are aware of the recording. As of now, the move is applicable only to the interviews held for mass communication courses. Depending on the experience and how beneficial the move has been, we will decide on extending it to other courses as well in due course of time," she adds.
