Anna University’s engineering counselling for B.E/B.Tech general stream candidates will start on July 9 and go on till August 12.
On Friday, the first day of sale of application forms, 86,000 students bought them.
The counselling is conducted for admission to Anna University departments, university colleges, government and its aided engineering colleges and for government quota seats in private engineering colleges under the unified single window admission system.
Announcing the counselling schedule on Friday, Anna University vice-chancellor, Prof P. Mannar Jawahar, said the university would generate random numbers which could be used when two candidates secure the same cut-off marks, on June 20, and rank list would be published on June 24.
Counselling for sports quota will take place on July 1 followed by the session for vocational candidates from July 3 to 7, and differently-abled candidates will take up counselling on July 8. General counselling will go on from July 9 to August 12.
Prof Mannar Jawahar pointed out that the counselling would be conducted for 1.6 lakh government quota seats in 525 engineering colleges across the state.
“A lot of colleges have applied to the all India council for technical education for more seats, new courses, and several trusts have applied to start new colleges so we expect more seats to be added for counselling this year.
About 45,000 seats fell vacant during last year’s counselling,” he said. He added that students who had taken civil and mechanical engineering in Tamil could write exams in Tamil and English.
