Anna University vice-chancellor Prof P. Mannar Jawahar said, that the university will issue application forms for engineering counselling from May first week and hopes to wrap up counselling in 40 days.
Addressing reporters after presiding over the first coordination committee meeting for this year’s engineering counselling at the university on Friday, Prof. Mannar Jawahar said last year the university printed two lakh application forms to be issued for counselling and this year too they would print two lakh applications.
“If we get an overwhelming response from engineering aspirants we will print an additional 50,000 applications and distribute them in designated centres across the state”, he said.
Replying to another question, Prof. Jawahar said that the university would make efforts to reduce the number of days of counselling and finish the counselling within 40 days.
The vice-chancellor pointed out that there were 1.5 lakhs seats in over 520 engineering colleges in the state.
Meanwhile, Justice N.V. Balasubramanian, chairman of the fee fixation committee for professional colleges in the state, said of the 502 private engineering colleges in the state only 164 had sent proposals to the committee for fee revision.
“We have given time for the remaining 338 colleges to file their responses before April 12. Students and parents too can send in their suggestions to the committee till April 15. We will take a decision after reviewing the proposals submitted by colleges and hearing them, besides suggestions from public”, he said.
Justice Balasubramanian refuted media reports that fees for private engineering colleges had been doubled.
