Jamia Millia Islamia is commencing its admission process for the 2012-13 academic session from Wednesday. Entrance examinations for various courses will start from the last week of May. This would be the first time that Jamia would be conducting its undergraduate admissions under the semester mode. Besides, BA (H) Turkish and MTech (nanotechnology) have been introduced in Jamia from this year.
Simi Malhotra, media coordinator of Jamia, said, "We are introducing BA (H) Turkish from this year. The new nanotechnology centre will offer an MTech course from the new academic session. All undergraduate courses will follow the semester system from this year."
While sale of prospectus will begin on March 28, the last date for submission of forms as well as entrance tests will differ from course to course. The application forms can be downloaded from the university website. Around 6,500 seats are up for grabs in various undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
In all courses - except those offered by the faculty of engineering and technology, architecture and ekistics, and faculty of dentistry - admissions will be based on merit, which will be determined by a written test followed by an interview. The entrance test and the interview will have 85% and 15% weight, respectively. Eligibility qualifications for international students in each course/ programme will be the same as that for Indian students. Ten per cent of the supernumerary seats will be earmarked for foreigners.
