The Chief Minister Nitish Kumar rebuked the parents for availing benefits of various education schemes by enrolling their children in multiple schools and said that one should not inculcate wrong values among the younger generation merely for greed.
"It is grossly inappropriate on the part of the parents to avail benefits like dress, Mid-Day Meal (MDM) and bicycles under the education schemes by enrolling their wards in multiple schools," he told reporters.
Stating that the state government has launched a number of schemes like bicycle, dress and other incentives to increase enrolment in the schools for the benefit of the children in the long term, Kumar said that it was wrong on the part of the parents and the children to take advantage of these incentives through wrong methods or lies.
The parents should understand that education was a way forward for personality and career development of the children who should be encouraged to adopt correct path to achieve success in their lives and not take to wrong methods to gain short-term benefits, the Chief Minister said.
Observing that it was found during a review meeting that the attendence of students was less during the MDM and issuance of health cards was much less than the total number of students enrolled in schools, Kumar regretted that these irregularities compromised the best intention of the state government to improve education.
He said that it was also found that the same student was enrolled in multiple schools for greed to avail benefits like dress, bicycle and MDM.
Stating that such irregularities in the education schemes would not be tolerated, Kumar said that the state government was considering to allot an identification number for school leaving certificate of each student.
He said new technology was being used to unearth irregularities in enrolment and attendence in schools.
